DAIMIA Connector - CAD Data Conversion Server Requirements

To enable the viewing of native CAD data formats within the DAIMIA Connector Viewer, the server must support the conversion of major CAD file types into compatible formats such as 3MF or OBJ. Below are the system requirements and specifications for such a server:

CAD System License
  • The server must be equipped with a valid, licensed installation of a major CAD system capable of opening and reading native CAD files. Supported CAD systems include (but are not limited to):
    • SolidWorks
    • CATIA
    • Siemens NX
    • Autodesk Inventor
    • Creo
    • AutoCAD
  • The CAD system should support the export or conversion of native formats into standard file types (3MF, OBJ, etc.) suitable for visualization in DAIMIA Connector.
Supported File Formats
  • The server must support the conversion of the following major CAD file formats into compatible exchange formats (such as 3MF, OBJ):
    • STEP (.step, .stp)
    • IGES (.iges, .igs)
    • Parasolid (.x_t, .x_b)
    • CATIA V5 (.catpart, .catproduct)
    • SolidWorks (.sldprt, .sldasm)
    • Autodesk Inventor (.ipt, .iam)
    • PTC Creo (.prt, .asm)
    • NX (.prt)
    • Other CAD formats as needed
Conversion Tools
  • The server should be equipped with an automated conversion tool to convert native CAD data into widely supported formats such as:
    • 3MF (.3mf)
    • OBJ (.obj)
    • STL (.stl)
    • FBX (.fbx)
    • GLTF/GLB (.gltf, .glb)
Server Hardware Requirements
  • CPU: Minimum of 8-core processor (Intel Xeon or equivalent recommended for performance)
  • RAM: At least 32 GB of RAM for handling large CAD files and multi-user environments
  • Storage: SSD storage with at least 500 GB of available space for storing converted files and handling large datasets
  • Graphics: A dedicated GPU (NVIDIA or equivalent) may be required for handling graphics-intensive conversions and rendering tasks.
  • Network: High-speed internet connection (1Gbps or higher recommended) for smooth data transfer and integration with DAIMIA Connector.
Software Requirements
  • The server should be running a compatible operating system:
    • Windows Server (2016 or later)
    • Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, or equivalent)
  • The server should have the necessary APIs or integration modules to allow seamless communication between the CAD system and DAIMIA Connector.
  • Any required libraries or software development kits (SDKs) for CAD file handling and conversion should be installed and configured.
Integration with DAIMIA Connector
  • The server should be able to integrate with DAIMIA Connector to serve converted files to the Viewer in real time.
  • The CAD data conversion process should be seamless, automatically triggered when a user requests a model in a supported format.
Security & Access Control
  • The server should have appropriate access controls and encryption for handling sensitive CAD data.
  • User authentication should be integrated with Aras’ existing security protocols. These requirements ensure that the server is properly equipped to handle the conversion of native CAD files into supported formats, enabling smooth and efficient visualization within DAIMIA Connector ‘s Viewer.
